Frequently Asked Questions

How does this online learning program work?
This is a self-discovery program which encourages staff to take control of their own learning and to utilize their lifelong learning skills through exploration and play. There will be no required classes or workshops offered to support this program. Instead, staff are encouraged to work together and share with each other their discoveries, techniques and "how to's" both in and through their blogs. Please feel free to contact Brooke with any questions that you have.

How much does it cost?
Nothing! You will even receive a 8GB flash drive for completing the journey and two Flip video cameras will be given away also (for educational use).

How do I sign up?
Contact Brooke Storms at brooke.storms@kentwoodps.org or (616)871-1080 ext. 19105. There is limited space (25 participants), so hurry.

Is this program open to all KPS staff?
This program is open to all instructional and support staff in Kentwood.

How long do I have to complete the program?
The program kicks off March 10th and officially wraps up on April 26th.

How do I track my progress for each of the 11 Things?
Each staff member that chooses to participate in this program will be required to keep a blog to track their progress. Your facilitator will give you feedback throughout the course.

I'm not comfortable with my co-workers reading my blog, can I participate anonymously?
Since you control all the information that you share on your blog, you can choose to use a screen name to identify yourself to keep yourself anonymous. Your facilitator will not share your identity with anyone.

Will there be any training classes offered to show staff how to do this?
This is a self-directed learning program, so there are not any pre-arranged training classes offered. If you need assistance, you are encouraged to be resourceful. Reading other participant blogs and collaborating with co-workers will help. Feel free to contact your facilitator (brooke.storms@kentwoodps.org) with questions.

I am having problems seeing the videos or other graphics in my browser. What should I do?
Most video on the web today is delivered via Flash Video. If you can’t see a particular video, try updating your Flash plug-in's by going here. For some sites, you also may require the JAVA plug-in, which you can get here.

Can I work ahead through the list of items on my own?
Yes, of course. You are encouraged to self-direct your discovery process, especially by working ahead on your own!!

What if I need help - who can I call?
Since this program is self-directed and is being completed by many staff members throughout the system simultaneously, you are encouraged to work with colleagues along your discovery journey. You can find a list of participant blogs here. Also, feel free to e-mail your facilitator (brooke.storms@kentwoodps.org) with any questions.
